CREATIVE DIRECTION & DESIGN- ORIGINAL BRAND IDENTITY & EDITORIAL PRINT DESIGN
GRAD STUDENT – UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA BERKELEY EXTENSION GRAPHIC DESIGN (FULL-TIME)
This project presents an original quarterly editorial magazine concept designed to showcase vintage cars through the lens of various photographers—primarily on film. I envisioned the magazine as a collector’s item that would appeal to a broader artistic audience than a traditional car publication, while still offering valuable information and captivating advertisements that uphold the elegant, chic, concise, and exclusive spirit of Speed. I combined carefully curated film photography with elevated, vintage-inspired typography, editorial layouts, and a retro color palette to create a cohesive visual identity that feels both dynamic and innovative. After establishing a comprehensive editorial brand identity—including the masthead/logo, color palette, imagery, and typography—I designed multiple volumes of the publication, featuring covers, spines, and interior spreads that exemplify its distinctive visual language.

CREATIVE DIRECTION & DESIGN - ORIGINAL BRAND IDENTITY & EDITORIAL MAGAZINE
MARCH 2022
This project showcases a vintage car film magazine concept and original brand identity design, including the first five volume covers and inside spread mockups.
-
The prompt for this project was to create a publication of your choice and to develop the brand identity for the publication that defines a masthead / logo, color palette, imagery and typography. Then, we were asked to create several editions of this publication, including front cover, spine, and back cover designs for each. To expand the project further, design an inside article or spread that advances the brand identity and compliments the cover designs. I chose to design a series of covers for a quarterly magazine that showcases vintage cars captured through the eyes of different photographers, primarily on film.
-
Individuals between the ages of 20-65 who enjoy vintage cars and people who enjoy striking, edgy, dynamic photography. This magazine provides information and editorials on vintage cars & restorations, all captured through the lens of film-inspired photographers.

Cars are a huge financial market as they serve as a pastime and hobby for many different individuals, in addition to the most common mode of transportation. This market is reflected by the fact that cars are often the subject of various publications and advertisements. The majority of the advertisements we see daily are for new cars, yet vintage cars and the restoration of cars are also a large financial market. Vintage cars are also a popular subject for photographers, particularly those who prefer to shoot with film.
-
I personally am a fan of film photography and a common subject of film photography is vintage cars. While these images are striking, unique, sophisticated and elevated, I have never seen a film or vintage - inspired photo utilized in a modern car advertisement or publication. I decided to create a publication that stood out in the oversaturated market by placing the central focus on the utilization of primarily 35mm film imagery and vintage cars, rather than new ones. typography and simplistic layout in order to expand on the sentiments captured in the images used.
-
In order to create a series of magazine covers that were cohesive, striking, unique, elevated, chic and exclusive, I placed the central emphasis on the imagery that is included. These images create a unique feeling for the viewer as a result of the color composition, lighting, negative space and backgrounds that are commonly featured. Facilitating a unique feeling in the consumer is precisely what car advertisements and companies strive to do- and film photography is a new creative route to do so and to inspire a resurgence of vintage cars that provoke similar sentiments to this type of photography. In order to advance these notions, I accompanied the imagery with complementary vintage-inspired typography and color palette. I also used film photography in the advertisements that are included in the publication in order to keep the vibe consistent and to produce unique ads that stand out in the market.
